Cassidy takes a new post while the rest of the nation is still reeling from the nanotech disasters of two years ago. One rogue scientist flounders to erase his experiments and, in the process, inflicts tragedy upon Cassidy. A new A.I. entity emerges in the chaos, but amidst it all, Cassidy's greatest foe is her own grief.
At first intent on revenge, the A.I. that carries the mind of Lifehack's massacres pulls itself together. In the planning stages, he also 'gives birth' to Sarah, who attempts a human life. The legacy of her 'father' rises around her, threatening the lives of her found family, the city, and beyond.
Lenth grew up knowing four rooms, three Brothers, and the rubber-suited overseer above the grated ceiling. This was Lenth's world. This was normal.
Until a Brother dies, and the ceiling above the ceiling opens briefly and reveals a fourth human, and the existence of things beyond Lenth's little world.
One quarantined section of the facility is reviled and feared, with good reason. The Citizens are ruled by one little dictator after another, who inflict humiliation and cruelty to maintain power.
-Until Leena discovers a weakness in the current ruler. Until Leena learns 'rebellion'.
The facility had protected the people from the remains of war, and the Enemy for over a century. This was arguably 'fine' (it isn't,) until the generator ran out of fuel.
Now, while Chief Engineer Tara and her close partner Sasha try to squeeze every last bit of juice out of the backups, the entire population will have to face harsh realities about their society and the world when they reach out to the surface for help.
